Over the years I have developed and
managed the development of a number of software products.
These ranged from simple small programs on the early computers
such as the Commodore 64 to complex programs on Windows,
Macintosh and embedded systems projects. In the early days I
programmer in assembler (6502 and 68K) and began programming in
C in the 1985. These days I program in C++ and have also
worked with a variety of scripting languages for web
development.
In 1988 I helped a fledgling company
called Maxis with their Amiga version of a game named
"Metropolis." The name was later changed to "SimCity" and
became a legend in the game world. Later I was invited to
be the Technical Director for the company, a position I held for
3 years and was then made Director of Sim Titles.
Tired of the corporate
world I left Maxis in 1997 and have since been involved in
contract projects and in developing my own software which I sell
through it's own site:
www.jyotishtools.com These titles deal with the field
of classical Indian astrology called jyotish have been developed
for Windows, the Palm and Pocket PC platform. I have also
worked on some yet to be released versions for Linux and
Macintosh. I also ported the game Myst to the ill-fated
Nuon DVD and game console chipset.
The first part of my life was spent as a
professional musician playing a wide range of music including
jazz, rock and classical music. Though drums are my
performance instrument I am also a keyboardist and have written
and arranged many musical pieces. While at Maxis I even
wrote some of the music for their games as well as developing an
algorithmic music engine.
Another related interest has been video
production. My first hands-on experience with television
equipment came at the of 12 when I created title cards for the
local TV station (yes, I am an artist too). In recent
years I have created and edited my own videos. I was an
early adopter of the consumer DVD burner out of necessity for
the development of the Myst Nuon product. I was also an
early adopter to HDTV and even use the JVC HD camcorder for
video production.
